چکیده

The first examples of halogen bonded analogues of deep cavity cavitands with guest binding properties, formed between N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene halides as acceptors and bromotrichloromethane as the donor, are reported in the solid state and in solution.

Tetraiodoethynyl resorcinarene cavitands as multivalent halogen bond donors.

The syntheses and halogen bonded (XB) complexes of tetrahalogenated ethynyl cavitands are presented. These cavitands act as quite rigid 3D multivalent halogen bond donors and show strong XB with oxygen, nitrogen and bromide XB acceptors.

Halogen-bonded solvates of tetrahaloethynyl cavitands†

Halogen bonding (XB) has been receiving considerably increasing attention as it provides a complementary interaction to hydrogen bonding (HB). XB has been proven to play crucial roles in supramolecular chemistry, nanoscience, biosystems, and functional materials. Its directionality and tunability make XB an important noncovalent interaction, geometrically and thermodynamically, similar to HB; h...

Synthesis of nanoscale carceplexes from deep-cavity cavitands.

Deep-cavity cavitands were shown to undergo carceplex reactions in which two cavitand tetrols were covalently linked using bromochloromethane; the efficiency of the "dimerization" was closely tied to the templating guest molecule incarcerated within the host.

Deep cavitands featuring functional acetal-based walls.

The synthesis of deep cavitands with functionalized acetals as a fourth-wall is described. Recognition properties and stabilities of the complexes of two representative cavitands with aliphatic, aromatic, carbocyclic and adamantane guests were evaluated by NMR methods.

Guest-controlled self-sorting in assemblies driven by the hydrophobic effect.

The extent of self-sorting in systems comprised of two different deep-cavity cavitands is investigated. The nature of the guest(s) encapsulated in the resulting assemblies is shown to profoundly influence the extent of self-sorting.
